Which crystal is used for focus and clarity?

Lapis lazuli is the traditional answer. It has been associated with wisdom, truthful speech and clear thinking since ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, where it was valuable enough to be traded across thousands of kilometres from a single mountain range in Afghanistan. Sulemani hakik is the other stone in this group, worn across India as a grounding and protective stone, and typically chosen by people who want steadiness rather than stimulation. If you are studying or working through a decision, lapis is the usual pick. If you are trying to stop reacting to everything, sulemani hakik is.

What is lapis lazuli actually made of?

Lapis is a rock, not a single mineral, which is why it looks the way it does. The deep blue comes from lazurite. The gold glints are pyrite, the same iron sulphide sold on its own as a wealth stone. The white streaks and patches are calcite. The proportions vary from piece to piece, so a bracelet with a little pyrite sparkle and a thin calcite vein is normal lapis, not a defect. Uniform flat blue with no inclusions at all is the thing to be suspicious of.

Is lapis lazuli usually dyed?

A lot of cheap lapis on the market is. Lower grade material with heavy white calcite is commonly dyed to force an even blue, and dyed stone gives itself away in two ways. Colour concentrates around the drill holes, because that is where dye pools, and a cotton bud with a little acetone will pick up blue from a dyed bead. Ours is not dyed, and every bracelet ships with a certificate of authenticity. You are welcome to run the cotton bud test on it.

What is sulemani hakik, really?

Sulemani hakik is banded agate, a form of chalcedony quartz, usually black and white or black and grey. It is worth being plain about this because the category is full of mystique: it is not a rare mineral, it is not meteoritic, and it is not the same thing as a dzi bead. It is agate, which is common, durable and has been carved and worn for thousands of years precisely because it is tough and takes a good polish. What makes a good sulemani hakik bracelet is the banding and the workmanship, not scarcity.

How can I tell if agate has been dyed?

Dyed agate is widespread, especially in very saturated or unnaturally even colours. The reliable tells are the drill holes and the bands. Dye concentrates where the drill entered, so look for a darker halo around the hole. Natural banding also shows soft gradation between layers, while dyed banding often reads as flat colour with hard edges. Black and white sulemani in its natural state usually has slightly translucent grey zones rather than opaque, uniform black.

Will it help me study or concentrate?

Not by itself, and we will not pretend otherwise. No stone has been shown to improve concentration, memory or exam performance in research. What it does is work as an anchor: you put it on when you sit down to study, and the act becomes a signal that this block of time is for one thing. Plenty of people use a specific playlist or a particular chair for the same purpose. The bracelet is a more portable version of that, and it is a legitimate use.

Which hand should I wear it on?

Left for receiving, right for projecting, is the usual framing. For clarity and learning intentions most people choose the left. If you are wearing it specifically as a study cue, put it on whichever hand you will see while you work, which for most people writing or typing means the non-dominant one.

How do I look after lapis and agate?

Lapis is the more delicate of the two. It is relatively soft, it is porous, and the calcite in it reacts badly to acids, so keep it away from water, perfume, sunscreen and household cleaners, and wipe it with a dry cloth only. Agate is far tougher and tolerates far more, but the elastic cord does not, so the same advice applies: take it off before showering or swimming. Put both on after your perfume and lotion, never before.

What size should I order?

Measure the widest part of your wrist with a tape or a strip of paper, then add roughly 1cm for a comfortable beaded fit. Most adult women land at 16 to 17cm and most adult men at 18 to 19cm. When you are between two sizes, take the larger. A slightly loose bracelet keeps the elastic from being permanently stretched, and that is what determines how long it lasts.

Frequently asked questions

Which crystal bracelet is best for focus and clarity?

Lapis lazuli is the traditional choice, associated with clear thinking and truthful speech since ancient Egypt. Sulemani hakik is the other stone in this group, worn across India for steadiness and protection. Lapis suits study and decision making, sulemani hakik suits wanting to react less.

What is lapis lazuli made of?

It is a rock rather than a single mineral. The deep blue is lazurite, the gold glints are pyrite and the white streaks are calcite. Proportions vary from bead to bead, so a little sparkle and a thin white vein is normal lapis. Perfectly uniform flat blue with no inclusions is the thing to question.

How do I know the lapis is not dyed?

Dye pools at the drill hole, so look for a darker halo there, and a cotton bud with a little acetone will lift blue from a dyed bead. Ours is not dyed and ships with a certificate of authenticity. You are welcome to run the cotton bud test yourself when it arrives.

What is sulemani hakik actually?

Banded agate, a form of chalcedony quartz, usually black and white or black and grey. It is not a rare mineral, not meteoritic and not the same as a dzi bead. It is agate, which is common and very durable, and has been carved and worn for thousands of years because it is tough and polishes well.

How can I tell if agate has been dyed?

Check the drill hole for a darker halo, since dye concentrates where the drill entered. Natural banding gradates softly between layers while dyed banding tends to read as flat colour with hard edges. Natural black and white sulemani usually shows slightly translucent grey zones rather than opaque uniform black.

Will a bracelet help me study or concentrate better?

Not on its own, and we will not claim it does. No stone has been shown in research to improve concentration, memory or exam results. What it does work as is an anchor: you put it on when you sit down to study and it becomes a signal that this block of time is for one thing.

How do I care for lapis lazuli?

Lapis is the more delicate stone here. It is relatively soft and porous and its calcite content reacts badly to acids, so keep it away from water, perfume, sunscreen and cleaning products, and wipe it with a dry cloth only. Put it on after your perfume and lotion, not before.
